The Hovawart is one of the breeds that does not have CC status in the UK, and unless the rules are changed, which is unlikely, there can be no English Champions.
This is not the case in Europe, and the International Hovawart Federation awards its own champion titles, and now, for the first time this has been achieved by a British dog.
PINES Mercedes won three Best Bitch awards under IHF Judges at qualifying shows thus entitling her to be an IHF champion.
We were very thrilled when we realized that this was possible, and it was the “icing on the cake” for this remarkable bitch. Mercedes has had three litters of puppies, amounting to more than 30 puppies, and still looks and behaves like a puppy herself.
Her sire was Arek von Schleuseberg from East Germany, and her mother was PINES Hilary, the first bitch puppy from imported Jordis von der Zollbrucke of PINES bred by Volker Wienrich. It may sound a bit fanciful, but there was an instant rapport between Arek and Hilary…….reassuring when we had just driven 900 miles for their meeting……and all the puppies from that litter seem to have inherited a happy disposition, especially Mercedes.
We have been so fortunate to have had her.
PINES MERCEDES
Mercedes with trophies from the World Show, Amsterdam. She was judged BEST HOVAWART BITCH (CAC & CACIB) by breed specialist J de Gids (Holland) - the first time we have been able to compare our breeding with the Continent. To cap a wonderful day, her mother was BEST VETERAN and pulled out in the group. Click photo for a larger image. |
